New Lithium Battery Rules in Effect

In early January 2013, PHMSA published final rule HM-215L, which addresses, among other things, shipment of lithium batteries. The rule now permits shippers to use the 2013-2014 ICAO Technical Instructions to achieve compliance.

ORM-D Allowed Through End of 2020

PHMSA has extended the use of the ORM-D hazard class marking for highway, rail, and vessel through December 31, 2020. The ORM-D Air hazard class, however, was eliminated December 31, 2012. Read More
